Overview

The Catalonia Quantum Academy offers grants to support participating CQA institutions to organize topical Short Courses in Quantum Science and Technology.

Program Description:

The Catalonia Quantum Academy offers grants to support participating CQA institutions to organize topical Short Courses in Quantum Science and Technology. 

The aim of the program is to encourage sharing expertise, enhancing existing academic and/or training programs, developing the teaching skills of PhD students and Postdocs, and strengthening the teaching capacity of the participating institutions.  

Short Courses should cover a topic or topics in Quantum Science and Technology and will typically last up to one week. They may be addressed to an audience of undergraduate or master’s students. 

The Short Courses should augment existing academic or training programs and, where applicable, be eligible for credit in undergraduate or master’s programs. They may run either in term breaks or over the summer. 

Short Courses may be taught by faculty, PhD students or Postdocs from participating CQA institutions, supplemented by invited external lecturers. They may include activities such as: 

  • Series of lectures on well-defined subtopics 
  • Practical training sessions 
  • Discussion of exercises or research problems 
  • Other related activities 

Eligibility:

The call is addressed to faculty, PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers from participating CQA institutions. 

Application Process:

Applications will be submitted via email to cqa@icfo.eu  

Each application should include: 

  • A brief proposal outlining the content of the course 
  • The audience 
  • The provisional venue 
  • Provisional list of lecturers 
  • Accreditation of the course (if available) 
  • Statement of support from a CQA institute willing to host the event 

Evaluation Process:

Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee appointed by the CQA Coordination Board, with a rolling evaluation at end of each month until all grants are filled. 

Award:

We will award up to €5.000 per grant. The award may be used for: 

  • Travel and accommodation for visiting lecturers 
  • Honoraria of up to €150 per hour of teaching for lecturers 
  • Materials to be used in teaching the Shout Course 
  • Other reasonable costs identified in the proposal.  

The award is compatible with funding from other sources.  

The funds will be transferred to the host CQA institution identified in the proposal to execute the action(s) agreed. 

The funds cannot be used to cover overhead expenses either at the host institution and cannot be used to support activities run for profit.  

A nominal fee may be charged for researchers to attend such short courses to help cover travel, accommodation or catering costs. However, there should be no enrolment fee for students at the undergraduate or master’s level to participate in Short Courses.
